Christie's, one of the world's most prestigious auction houses, is renowned for its expertise in art, antiques and collectibles.
Through its sales, Christie's showcases exceptional works of art and rare objects, attracting collectors from all over the world. Combining art, music and specialized conferences, Christie's Lates evenings are the ideal opportunity to exchange ideas with other art enthusiasts in a convivial atmosphere.
These free events aim to bring art to life and encourage discussion, by showcasing key works from upcoming auctions, as well as artists from around the world. For the September 2024 edition, centered on the theme "Voices of Black Artistry", Christie's London called on Studio Artera to select and organize the exhibition of an artist in line with this subject.
For this exceptional evening, Studio Artera has invited the American-Guyanese-Nigerian artist Chelsea Odufu to exhibit some of her photographic work.
Chelsea Odufu's work explores in depth how black cultural traditions are preserved in the face of urbanization and globalization. She frequently uses Afro-futuristic imagery mixed with visual archives, creating a juxtaposition that blurs the perception of time. A multidisciplinary artist, she has collaborated with Spike Lee, Burning Man, Chanel and Forbes. For this exhibition, the artist and Studio Artera have chosen to present three 100x150 cm photographs from the "Gold With a Mind of its Own" series , taken in Côte d'Ivoire in 2023 and previously exhibited at the Photo London Fair.
This evening in the heart of London was an opportunity to unveil the art and world of this essential artist, offering a new audience her unique vision of the world.
