Working with a winery is always an exciting challenge. Depending on the location of the estate, the terroir, its history and the vision of the owners, each experience imagined together is unique. For over half a century, contemporary art and wine have crossed paths in a wide range of collaborations, with the aim of offering enthusiasts of both worlds a shared experience based on emotion. Labels, in-situ works, exhibitions, sponsorship, packaging - the possibilities are endless. For Château Charmail, Studio Artera decided to think outside the box to create a unique evening of contemporary art and wine.
Since the 18th century, the Charmail estate has nurtured a culture of innovation and daring, while offering wine lovers timeless savoir-faire from the banks of the Gironde. With this in mind, we sat down with Augustin Goudet, head of Château Charmail, and artist Romain Lalire to bring together the visions and challenges of this evening around three key words: inspiration, creation, revelation. We wanted to imagine a suspended moment, out of time, where all the senses of the participants would be called upon: a total synesthesia lasting a few hours, in a magical location in the heart of Paris.
It was in his Paris studio that artist Romain Lalire conceived this unique artistic articulation: a questioning between the real and the imaginary, where the senses and reason are challenged.
The works of artist Romain Lalire take us into a world where the invisible is sublimated, blending the real and the unreal, shattering the boundaries that separate them. His performances, tinged with magic and delicacy, encourage us to question our relationship with images, marked by the omnipresence of technology in our daily lives, deconstructing our perception of reality. For Château Charmail, Romain has conceived a performance, an installation and a preview of his latest series "Above the Clouds" in the spirit of innovation that Château Charmail has nurtured for many years on its estate and around its vintages. The installation, called "Eclipse", brings together four holograms arranged to create an anamorphosis, a unique spectacle that sublimates the ephemeral side of nature, which is inseparable from the creation of wine.
His contemporary art creations offer us mysterious asides, prompting us to take a step back from the different ways we perceive reality and, above all, to reawaken that part of wonder within us that we sometimes tend to put to one side.
A veritable explorer of new artistic forms, Romain Lalire's work focuses on digital media. Augmented reality, generative software, real-time programs, mapping, sensory sensors... these are just some of the fabulous tools he uses to question reality and our relationship with images: the all-digital world, the multiplicity of media, our (over)consumption of media and the omnipresence of technology in our lives. He works regularly with luxury brands such as Montblanc, Hermès and Van Cleef & Arpels.
