Stéphane Parain is a sculptor. Trained at the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, he was awarded the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the sculpture category, one of the most prestigious honors in the field of craftsmanship, presented by the President of the Republic. This recognition is not merely decorative: it attests to exceptional technical mastery, acquired through carving and sculpting in wood, marble, metal, and polystyrene.
After earning his MOF title, Stéphane Parain joined the Historic Monuments department, where he worked on the restoration and creation of pieces for listed buildings. He then joined the set design workshops of the Paris National Opera, designing monumental pieces for productions of the greatest operas and ballets. This career path, spanning from heritage restoration to large-scale stage design, has shaped a unique perspective on the temporality of objects and the relationship between form, material, and space.
His personal works explore temporality, the organic, and the structural. They seek to give form to the invisible and to question the notion of reality through forms that draw as much from the classical sculpture of the Grand Siècle as from the obsessions of contemporary art. One of his most notable projects is "Update," created in collaboration with the artist Rero: four monumental busts by Antoine Coypel, painter to the kings, reworked and installed in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré neighborhood of Paris.
