Silvère Jarrosson

Art in motion by Silvère Jarrosson

Silvère Jarrosson is a French painter, born in 1993 in Paris. A graduate of the Paris Opera Ballet School and holder of a master's degree in biology from Pierre and Marie Curie University, he began painting in 2014, initially using acrylics and later oil paints.

Silvère Jarrosson approaches painting as an autonomous organic material, employing serial processes that replicate the physical and chemical phenomena of the evolution of living forms on the canvas surface. He likes to give the "impression of nature" through works where forms applied with a brush coexist with those born from the spontaneous flows, deformations, and ruptures of the paint. His compositions rely on the interplay of adding and subtracting material, notably through sanding the dry paint surface, allowing an archaeology of image formation.

This approach is inspired by numerous solitary hikes in France and abroad, where he immerses himself in extreme ecosystems—Mongolian steppes, Andean plateaus—in search of an increasingly rare virgin nature. In doing so, he reflects on the emergence and reproduction of natural forms, their exhaustion and degradation, in a universe he now expresses through single-panel and multi-panel paintings, installations, performances, and lithographs. His works address morphogenesis, bodies, music, sciences, and the relationship between chance and necessity.

His exhibitions are characterized by a particular attention to the visitor's movements, their navigation through space, and the awareness of their body as an integral part of an immersive installation. This results in often monumental installations in atypical spaces.

Silvère Jarrosson's works have been exhibited in France, the United States, Italy, Germany, China, Denmark, and Latvia. They have been showcased in prestigious institutions such as the Villa Medici in Rome, the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar, the Collection Lambert in Avignon, and are now part of several major collections like the Société Générale Collection, the Mobilier National, and the Paris Opera. In 2024, he was selected by NetJets to participate in Art Basel in Switzerland, Paris, and Miami.

In 2023, Silvère Jarrosson created a monumental painting, measuring 5m by 6m, specifically for the Opéra Bastille.

In October 2024, following an initial appearance at Art Basel in Basel in June, Silvère Jarrosson returns to Art Basel Paris and Miami alongside Studio Artera. He presents thirteen of his abstract paintings, captivating works that explore movement and rhythm, in a 200m² space.

His next exhibition will be in the Galerie de l'Évolution at the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris in 2025, with several monumental paintings.

Sculpting matter through gesture

Silvère Jarrosson works with pictorial matter through movement and tools that allow him to delve inside, shaping it to give it its final form. The paint is tamed on the canvas with broad, tiny, abrupt, or precise gestures, according to the artist's intent.
