Itchi

Itchi, king of vintage

Sacha Cohen-Tanugi (real name) started out as a graphic designer. A graduate of LISAA in Paris, he began his career as a freelancer before developing a fierce passion for collage, which he quickly perfected. His name soon spread like wildfire, and he became one of the leading figures in this very special art form, which allows us to navigate between worlds. Press titles, galleries, major companies, luxury brands, private collections, hotels, businesses, cinema and theater, Itchi has established himself over the years as an expert with the scalpel and the graphic palette. Considering himself as much an archivist as an artist, Itchi scours flea markets and virtual platforms in search of his raw material: old vintage newspapers and magazines from the post-war era, which he gathers in his workshop, and whose overall mass approaches several hundred kilos. There, in his workshop, everything is meticulously classified and ordered according to era and theme, in a timeless setting.

What appeals to Itchi? Materials and their infinite possibilities. He mixes chalk with paint or paper with pastels. Making subtle use of computer-assisted editing, he breathes new life into striking visuals through the addition of splashes of color and geometric elements. Since his first exhibition in 2015, Itchi has continued to build bridges between eras and styles, in a perpetual quest for transmission, aestheticism and precision. Sensitive to the gradual depletion of the earth's resources and the fragility of certain ecosystems, he practices an art of recovery and sublimation in order to have the smallest possible footprint in a perpetual tribute to the chemist Lavoisier: "Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed".

For almost 10 years, Itchi has been developing high-profile collaborations around a wide variety of projects with overpowering brand DNA at their core: Prada, The New York Times, Vacheron Constantin, Emmaüs, Tommy Hilfiger, SNCF, Timberland, weaving new links between the history of these brands and new generations. Distant eras, popular images, full-blown vintage: Itchi's works leave no one indifferent, far from it. They have the ability to plunge our gaze into society's rear-view mirror and observe the world from another angle, as if in a new dimension where the balance between past and present is total. These faces, these visuals, have remained in the shadows for several decades, and are now being rejuvenated by their young creator.

As part of the "Sweet Dreams" exhibition at the Aix-En-Provence Short Film Festival, Itchi exhibited a series of illustrations and designed the poster for the event.

Itchi's collages

Itchi's compositions are unique. They are real pieces of history, cut up, arranged, modernized and sublimated for our greatest pleasure. Behind the aesthetics, there's the question of the trace that Man leaves behind him through the ages, and what we retain of them. It's a "conscious" vintage that serves as a bridge between eras to better understand the present moment.
