Chelsea Odufu is an American-Guyanese-Nigerian artist based in New York, who explores black identity, spirituality and African and Caribbean traditions through her work. Her Afro-futuristic approach creates powerful visual narratives that challenge perceptions of marginalized communities and celebrate black heritage.
Traveling the world and making films since the age of fourteen, Odufu uses her international aura to counter outdated perceptions of underrepresented communities. After graduating from NYU, she collaborated with Spike Lee on several projects, including "Chi-Raq" and the Netflix series adaptation of "She's Gotta Have It". Her award-winning films "Ori Inu: In Search of Self" and "Black Lady Goddess" have screened at over 20 film festivals worldwide. She has created artistic companions for brands such as Chanel, Target, Dr Martens, Gillette Venus, Cadillac, Chase Sapphire, Bose, and Fiverr, where she was chosen as Chief Digital Nomad.
Her work has been featured on platforms such as Forbes, NY Times, Huffington Post, Afro-Punk, Okay Africa, Saint Heron, The Build Series, NBC News, and many others.
As a visual artist, Chelsea Odufu was one of twelve artists selected in 2021 for Kehinde Wiley's Black Rock Senegal residency in Dakar, where she created a multi-channel video and sound installation that was exhibited at the Dakar Biennale. She has also exhibited her work at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporic Art, the Seattle Arts Museum, and the A&A Hillyer Gallery.
Chelsea Odufu has created public artworks, including a video installation for the US Embassy in Senegal, as well as visual works for JP Morgan. She is co-founder of Tech Afrique, an immersive audiovisual healing platform for BIPOC communities.
Her work has been exhibited at Paris Photo and Photo London Fair, and is part of JP Morgan's art collection.
She recently collaborated with Burning Man and exhibited at Christie's London with Studio Artera.
